  • 简介:AIM:Tocomparetheanteriorandposteriorcornealparametersbeforeandaftercollagencross-linkingtherapyforkeratoconus.METHODS:Collagencross-linkingwasperformedin31eyesof31keratoconuspatients(meanage30.6±8.9y).Priortotreatmentandanaverage7moaftertherapy,ScheimpfluganalysiswasperformedusingPentacamHR.Inadditiontocornealthicknessassessments,cornealradius,elevation,andaberrometricmeasurementswereperformedbothonanteriorandposteriorcornealsurfaces.Dataobtainedbeforeandaftersurgerywerestatisticallyanalyzed.RESULTS:Intermsofhorizontalandverticalcornealradius,andcentralcornealthicknessnodeviationswereobservedanaverage7moafteroperation.Cornealhigherorderaberrationshowednodifferenceneitheronanteriornoronposteriorcornealsurfaces.Duringfollow-upperiod,nosignificantdeviationwasdetectedregardingelevationvaluesobtainedbymeasurementinmmunitsbetweenthe3.0-8.0mm-zones.CONCLUSION:Cornealstabilizationcouldbeobservedintermsofanteriorandposteriorcornealsurfaces,elevationandhigherorderaberrationvalues7moaftercollagencross-linkingtherapyforkeratoconus.

  • 简介:·AIM:Toevaluateandcomparetheefficacyandstabilityofintrastromalcornealringsegment(ICRs)implantationwithcross-linking(CXL)usingdifferentsequenceandtiming.·METHODS:Inthissingleretrospectivestudy,86keratoconiceyessubjectedtheICRsimplantation.Weanalyzedonly41eyesthathadcompletefollow-ups.Theyweredividedintothreegroups:ICRsimplantationwasappliedonly(groupnormal),ICRsfirstfollowedbyCXLimmediately(groupCXL-S),CXLfirstfollowedbyICRslongafter(groupCXL-B).Thevisualacuity,refractiveresults,keratometrywerecomparedpreoperativelyand1ypostoperatively.Theirdifferencesamongthethreegroupswerealsoanalyzed.·RESULTS:Groupnormalcomprised25eyes,groupCXL-S8eyes,andgroupCXL-B8eyes.Therewereimprovementsinthemeanuncorrecteddistancevisualacuity(UDVA)andthemeancorrecteddistancevisualacuity(CDVA)comparedpreoperativelyand1ypostoperatively[UDVA:0.31(P=0.030)logarithmicminimumangleofresolution(logMAR)groupnormal,0.4(P=0.020)groupCXL-S,0.45(P=0.001)groupCXL-B;CDVA:0.21logMAR(P=0.013)groupnormal,0.30(P=0.036)groupCXL-S;0.26(P=0.000)groupCXL-B].Therefractiveandtopographicoutcomesalsoshowedimprovements.Intermsofcomparisonsamongthethreegroups,allthePvalueswereabove0.05,showingnosignificantdifference.ButonlygroupCXL-BhadimprovementinUDVAandCDVAforallthepatients.·CONCLUSION:Withsafetyandgoodvisualoutcomes,ICRsimplantationisaviablealternativeforkeratoconus.Nosignificantdifferencewasfoundamongthesethreegroups.

  • 简介:AIM:ToevaluatetheeffectofCollagencross-linkingonthepreventionofmeltinginrabbitcorneasafteralkaliburn.·METHODS:TwentyNewZealandwhiterabbitswererandomlydividedintomodelcontrolgroupandcollagencross-linkingtreatmentgroup.Thesecondgroupofrabbitsreceivedcollagencrosslinkedtreatment.Bothgroupswereappliedwithantibioticeyedropstopreventinfection.Thecorneaswereevaluatedformelting,opacity,pathologicalandimmunohistochemistry,recordthechangeswhen28daysaftertheanimalswerekilled.·RESULTS:Inthecontrolgroup,6outof8rabbitsshowedcornealmeltingafterinjury(14±4)days,whiletwocornealperforated.Incollagencross-linkingtreatmentgroup,onerabbitshowedcornealmeltingafterinjury23days,withoutcornealperforation;cornealdissolutionratebetweenthetwogroupswassignificantlydifferent(P<0.05).Pathologicalexaminationsuggestedthatinthetreatmentgroup,mildcornealedema,milddamagetocollagenfibers,inflammatorycellinfiltrationwassignificantlylessthanthecontrolgroup.Immunohistochemistryshowedthatcornealcollagenfibersarrangedinneatrowsinthecontrolgroup.·CONCLUSION:Collagencross-linkingtreatmentnotonlycanpreventanddelaythecornealmeltingafteralkaliburn,butalsocanreducethedestructionofcornealcollagenfibersandinfiltrationofinflammatorycellsinthecornealtissue.

  • 简介:AbstractMelanoma originates from epidermal melanocytes and is the most malignant form of skin cancer, with an increasing incidence worldwide. In addition to the known pathological mutations in melanoma, the remodeling of epigenetic modification has recently been documented to orchestrate the malignant behaviors of tumor cells and anti-tumor immunity, emerging as an irreversible tumorigenic event that is more preventable and treatable with medications. As a hallmark characteristic of cancer, the disorder of cellular metabolism is also greatly implicated in tumor carcinogenesis and development. Accumulating evidence has revealed the close linkage between metabolism and epigenetics in multiple biological activities. In the pathogenesis of melanoma, the findings of other groups and our laboratory highlight the pivotal role of autophagy, mitochondrial function, and the oncometabolite acetyl-CoA, as well as their epigenetic modification. Targeted metabolism-associated epigenetic modulation might be a novel approach for melanoma therapy in the future.

  • 简介:AllsevenemissionstradingpilotsinChinaoperateindependently.Onechallengefacingmostofthemisthelowinclusionthresholdsforenterprisesandthefewtotalcoveredemissions,whichnegativelyinfluencestheeffectsoftheemissionstradingsystems(ETSs).Somepilotsites,suchasGuangdong,Hubei,TianjinandBeijing,haveindicatedtheirwillingnesstolinktheirschemeswithothers.ETSlinkingcouldexpandschemecoveragesandthereforehelptoreducetheoverallcostsofachievingthelinkedschemes’emissionscontroltargets.Linkingcouldalsohelptoaddresstheissuesofcarbonleakageandreducepricefluctuations.Thepotentialbenefitsandfeasibilityoflinkingdifferentpilotsystemsareanalyzedinthisarticle.Thesevenpilotregionsareatdifferentstagesofsocialandeconomicdevelopment,withsignificantdifferencesintotalemissionsandemissionsstructuresaswellascarbonabatementpotentialsandcosts.Throughlinking,more-developedregionssuchasBeijing,ShanghaiandShenzhen,whicharetypicallyconsideredtofacehighermitigationcosts,willhavetheopportunitytoachievetheiremissionscontroltargetsbypurchasingcarbonunitsfromless-developedregions,whichwillearnfinancialrevenuesfromsellingtheunits.Torealizethiswin-winresult,aseriesofpolicyandtechnicalbarriersatboththecentralgovernmentandpilotgovernmentlevelsneedstobeovercome.Establishingaunifiednationalemissionstradingmarketwouldappeartobetheidealsolutiontothesechallenges,butitwilltakeconsiderabletimeandwillnotbetheshort-termsolution.Intheabsenceofaunifiednationalscheme,itisrecommendedthatthecentralgovernmentencouragepilotschemestolink,thatitdevelopscorrespondingnationalpoliciestosupportthelinkingeffortsandthatthepilotschemesthatareintendedtobelinkedcoordinateoncertaindesignelements.Basedonthecoordinatingneed,themajorelementsofanETScanbedividedintofourcategories:elementsthatneedmutualrecognition(capset

  • 简介:AbstractRespiratory health in the general population declines regardless of the presence of pulmonary diseases. Oxidative stress has been implicated as one of the mechanisms involved in respiratory dysfunction. This review was to evaluate studies that relate oxidative stress factors with pulmonary function among the general population without prior respiratory illnesses. The search yielded 54 citations. Twenty-one studies qualified for incorporation in this review. Owing to the heterogeneity of the review, studies were discussed based on identified oxidative stress factors responsible for pulmonary dysfunction. Oxidative stress biomarkers, including gene polymorphisms of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2, heme oxygenase 1, glutathione S transferase, superoxide dismutase, and lipid peroxidation products were involved in lung function decline. In addition, the antioxidant status of individuals in reference to dietary antioxidant intake and exposure to environmental pollutants affected oxidative stress and pulmonary function, as indicated by forced expired volume in one second, forced vital capacity, and forced expiratory flow at 25%-75%. This review indicated that oxidative stress is implicated in the gradual decline of lung function among the general population, and gene polymorphism along the antioxidant defense line and/or their interaction with air pollutants reduce lung function. Different polymorphic forms among individuals explain why the rate of lung function decline differs among people. Dietary antioxidants have respiratory health benefits in antioxidant gene polymorphic forms. Therefore, the genetic composition of an individual may be considered for monitoring and identifying people at risk of respiratory illnesses.
