Objective:Patientswithheadandneckcanceroftensufferfrommalnutrition.Thisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheinfluenceofbodymassindex(BMI)ontheprognosisoflaryngealsquamouscellcarcinoma(LSCC).Methods:Atotalof473patientswithLSCCinitiallytreatedatSunYat-senUniversityCancerCenterbetweenJanuary2005andJuly2009wereretrospectivelyreviewed.SurvivalanalysiswasperformedbytheKaplan-MeiermethodandCoxregressionmodel.Results:LowBMIbeforetreatmentwassignificantlyassociatedwithpooroverallsurvivalinpatientswithLSCC(P<0.001).BMIwasanindependentprognosticfactorforpatientswithLSCC.Conclusion:LeannessbeforetreatmentwasassociatedwithpoorprognosisinpatientswithLSCC.GoodnutritionalstatusisfavorabletoimprovesurvivalinpatientswithLSCC.
