AneffectivemethodisintroducedtocompensatetheeffectsofmutualcouplingfortheEstimationofSignalParameterviaRotationalInvarianceTechniques(ESPRIT)directionfindingalgorithminapplicationofsignalsnapshotarrayprocessing.ChangingthecovariancematrixintoaTeoplitzmatrixcanachievehighresolutionintheDirectionOfArrive(DOA)estimation.Howthemutualcouplingaffectsthearrayantennashasbeendiscussedandanewdefinitionofmutualim-pedancehasbeenusedtocharacterizethemutualcouplingeffectsbetweenthearrayelements.Basedonthenewmutualimpedancematrix,apracticalmethodispresentedtoeliminatetheeffectsofmutualcouplingforESPRITinthesinglesnapshotdataprocessing.Thesimulationresultsshowthat,thisnewmethodnotonlyproperlyreducestheeffectsofmutualcoupling,butalsomaintainsitssteadyperformanceevenforweaksignals.
