Detection of number of sources and DOA estimation based on the combined information processing of pressure and particle velocity using acoustic vector sensor array

InordertosolvetheproblemofDOA(directionofarrival)estimationofunderwaterremotetargets,anovelsubspace-decompositionmethodbasedonthecrosscovariancematrixofthepressureandtheparticlevelocityofacousticvectorsensorarrays(AVSA)wasproposed.Whereafter,usingspatio-temporalvirtualtapped-delay-line,aneweigenvector-basedcriteriaofdetectionofnumberofsourcesandofsubspacepartitionisalsopresented.ThetheoreticalanalysisshowsthatthenewsourcedetectionanddirectionfindingmethodisdifferentfromexistingAVSAbasedDOAestimationmethodsusingparticlevelocityinformationofacousticvectorsensor(AVS)asanindependentarrayelement.Itisentirelybasedonthecombinedinformationprocessingofpressureandparticlevelocity,hasbetterestimationperformancethanexistingmethodsinisotropicnoisefield.Computersimulationswithdatafromlaketrialsdemonstrate,theproposedmethodiseffectiveandobviouslyoutperformsexistingmethodsinresolutionandaccuracyinthecaseoflowsignal-to-noiseratio(SNR).
