A Network Partition Algorithm for Mining Gene Functional Modules of Colon Cancer from DNA Microarray Data

Computationalanalysisisessentialfortransformingthemassesofmicroarraydataintoamechanisticunderstandingofcancer.Herewepresentamethodforfindinggenefunctionalmodulesofcancerfrommicroarraydataandhaveappliedittocoloncancer.First,acoloncancergenenetworkandanormalcolontissuegenenetworkwereconstructedusingcorrelationsbetweenthegenes.Thenthemodulesthattendedtohaveahomogeneousfunctionalcompositionwereidentifiedbysplit-tingupthenetwork.Analysisofbothnetworksrevealedthattheyarescale-free.Comparisonofthegenefunctionalmodulesforcoloncancerandnormaltissuesshowedthatthemodules’functionschangedwiththeirstructures.
