Theproblemonthedynamicresponseofarigidembeddedfoundationinthepresenceofanundergroundrigidtunnelandsubjectedtoexcitationofincidentanti-planeSHwavesisanalyzed.Byusingtheexactanalyticalsolutionforthetwo-dimensionalSH-wavepropagationinandaroundboththesurfacerigidfoundationandsubsurfacerigidtunnel,thoseaspectsoftheresultinggroundmotionsthatareofspecialinterestandimportanceforseismicresistantdesigninearthquakeanalyseshavebeenexamined.Thecomputedamplitudesoftheresultingperiodicgroundmotionsdisplayaverycomplicatedwave-interferencebetweenthesurfacefoundationandundergroundtunnelthatleadtoobservedstandingwavepatterns,togetherwithabruptchangesinthewaveamplitudesandlargeamplificationoftheincidentmotions.
