Introduction

1. The Development of the Translation of Technical Terms of EST

Translation is a social activity that crosses languages and cultures. The process of translation is not only a language conversion, but also the culture conversion which reflects different and social characteristics. One of representatives of the translation theories in the West Gatford thinks that the translation is one branch of contrasted linguistics; its purpose is to build up an equal footing relation. The central problem of translating fulfillment is to find the corresponding of the target language. The center mission of the translation theories is to define the condition and essence of certain translation equity. So the translation theories directly act on application theories, then through application theories to guide a concrete translation fulfillment. Application translating theories acted as the bridge between the translation theory and practice. So the application theories will mainly consider from the reader’s view, and try to change the sentence structure in the original text as far as possible, and look for an equivalent translation to meet the reader's demand.

4. Conclusion

Words are the basic language units of English. So understanding and translating words correctly are the basic step in the process of English-Chinese translation. The technical terms of EST have the characteristics, that is, one word may have multiple meanings. Talking of this, the interpreter of EST should possess plenty of professional background knowledge and related scientific knowledge, so as to translate them correctly and properly. Certainly it is not enough to know the related knowledge, the interpreter should also master the method and skill of EST translation, use the methods of choosing meaning of word, transforming part of speech, adding words and so on, thus can they translate the technical terms of EST precisely.

However, the translation of EST is much more difficult, it contains a lot of method and skill of other kind. One article can’t cover the entire situation that EST has. There are more to be studied.
