AlaminarpremixedPropane/Airflamewithafuelequivalenceratioof2.1wasemployedforanalysisofsootparticles.Zeroth-orderIognormaldistributions(ZOLD)wereusedintheanalysisofexperimentaldistributionphenomenaatdifferentresidencetimesduringsootformationintheflame.Rayleigh'stheoryandMie'sscatteringtheorywerecombinedwithagglomerateanalysisusingscatteringandextinctiondatatodeterminethefollowingsootcharacteristics:agglomerateparameters,volumetricfractions,massflowratesandsurfacegrowthrate.Sootdensitymeasurementswerecarriedouttodeterminedensityvariationsatdifferentstagesofgrowth.Themeasuredresultsshowthatmetricfractionandmassflowrateindicatethatthesurfacegrowthrateofsootparticlesexceedstheoxidationratesintheflamestudied.Thedataobtainedinthisworkwouldbeusedtostudysootoxidationrateunderflamingcondition.
