Temperature-controlled mode selection of Er-doped random fiber laser with disordered Bragg gratings

Inthispaper,weproposedawaytorealizeanEr-dopedrandomfiberlaser(RFL)withadisorderedfiberBragggrating(FBG)array,aswellastocontrolthelasingmodeoftheRFLbyheatingspecificlocationsofthedisorderedFBGarray.ThedisorderedFBGarrayperformsasboththegainmediumandrandomdistributedreflectors,whichtogetherwithatunablepointreflectorformtheRFL.Coherentmulti-moderandomlasingisobtainedwithathresholdofbetween7.5and10mWandapowerefficiencybetween23%and27%whenthereflectivityofthepointreflectorchangesfrom4%to50%.Tocontrolthelasingmodeofrandomemission,aspecificpointofthedisorderedFBGarrayisheatedsoastoshiftthewavelengthoftheFBG(s)atthispointawayfromtheotherFBGs.Thus,differentresonancecavitiesareformed,andthelasingmodecanbecontrolledbychangingthelocationoftheheatingpoint.
