BackgroundTheeffectofselectiveradiofrequencyablationfortreatingparoxysmalsupraventriculartachycardia(PSVT)anditsassociatedparoxysmalatrialfibrillation(PAF)wasassessed.MethodsDatawerecollectedretrospectivelyfrompatientsdiagnosedofPSVTandsubsequentlytreatedwithradiofrequencyablation.Regularmonthlyfollow-upbydynamicelectrocardiography(ECG)wasperformed.Incidentratesofatrialfibrillationbeforeandafterablationwerecompared.Results382PSVTpatientswith58havingatrialfibrillationwereenrolled.TheorderofcomplicatedPAFfromhightolowinthesepatientswasdisplayedas:atrialtachycardia(AT),atrioventricularreentranttachycardia(AVRT)andatrioventricularnodalreentranttachycardia(AVNRT).AmongAVRTpatients,PAFwasmorefrequentinpatientshavingaccessorypathways.AVNRTpatientshadsignificantlylowerPAFratecomparingtootherpatients.PAFincidentratewassignificantlyreducedbyradiofrequencyablationtherapy.ConclusionWeadviseregulardynamicECGforPSVTpatients,especiallythosewithatrialflutter,ATorpre-excitationsyndrome.SelectiveradiofrequencyablationisafeasibleapproachfortreatingAFcomplicatedPSVTpatients.
