Improved illumination for vision-based defect inspection of highly reflective metal surface

Specularandstrongreflectionsarethemainproblemsencounteredduringpartimagedefectinspectionofshinyorhighlyreflectivesurfaces.Inthisletter,weproposeanimprovedilluminationmethodfordefectinspection.Adiffuselightsourceisdesignedbasedonthephysicsanalysisoflightreflection.Thedistributionofintensityissimulatedaccordingtoaknownmodeltoverifytheilluminationuniformityofthesource.Experimentsshowthatdefectexpressivitywhenusingtheproposedilluminationmethodhasabetterperformance.Theopticalmodelisnotonlysuitableforthedefectdetectionofmetalballsbutalsoforthedefectdetectionofplanesandcylinders.
