ThetransientresponsetolongitudinalimpactofflexiblerodswithHertzcontactiscloselyrelatedtotheextentofdeformationswithdifferentimpactparameters.BymeansofLS-DYNA,fordifferentradiusanddifferentspeeds,thelongitudinalimpactofahammerwitharoundedendonadrillrodisnumericallysimulatedinthisarticle.Simulationsdemonstratethatthereisanobviousdif-ferencebetweenanalyticalsolutionandnumericalsolutiononconditionofshortcurvatureradius.Inthecircumstancecontactpressureincreases,theboundaryoftheyieldzoneexceedsthatofthecontactzone,andthesignificantplasticdeformationreducestheintensityofcontactpressurepulse.Contactforce-timecurvesinloadingandunloadingphasesshiftdown.Thenumericalsolutionisingoodagree-mentwithanalyticalsolutiononconditionoflargecurvatureradiusandimpactspeeds.Thedeforma-tionofyieldregionisconstrainedbythesurroundingelasticregionandnosignificantplasticdeforma-tionappears.
