Experimental Study on the Inlet Fogging System Using Two-Fluid Nozzles

摘要 Large-capacitycompressorsinindustrialplantsandthecompressorsingasturbineenginesconsumeaconsiderableamountofpower.Thecompressionworkisastrongfunctionoftheambientairtemperature.Thisincreaseincompressionworkpresentsasignificantproblemtoutilities,generatorsandpowerproducerswhenelectricdemandsarehighduringthehotmonths.Inmanypetrochemicalprocessindustriesandgasturbineengines,theincreaseincompressionworkcurtailsplantoutput,demandingmoreelectricpowertodrivethesystem.Onewaytocounterthisproblemistodirectlycooltheinletair.Inletfoggingisapopularmeansofcoolingtheinletairtoaircompressors.Inthepresentstudy,experimentshavebeenperformedtoinvestigatethesuitabilityoftwo-fluidnozzleforinletfogging.Compressedairisusedasthedrivingworkinggasfortwo-fluidnozzleandwateratambientconditionsisdraggedintothehigh-speedairjet,thusenablingtheentrainedwatertobeatomizedinaveryshortdistancefromtheexitofthetwo-fluidnozzle.Theairsupplypressureisvariedbetween2.0and5.0barandthewaterflowrateentrainedismeasured.Theflowvisualizationandtemperatureandrelativehumiditymeasurementsarecarriedouttospecifythefoggingcharacteristicsofthetwo-fluidnozzle.
