  • 简介:Thetreesinurbanlandscapes,independentofwhethertheyareinurbanforestsorstandalone,canimproveenvironmentquality,enhanceindividualandcommunitywell-being,provideawiderangeofservicestoindividualsandcommunities,andproduceamorehealthfulandcomfortableenvironmentforthevastmajorityofthepopulation.Knowledgeofthepotentialsignificanceoftreesinurbanlandscapesisexpandingrapidlyasresearchcontinuestodocumenttheimportantrolethaturbanforestsandtreescanplayinimprovingthequalityofurbanlife.Theenvironmentalconditionsinurbanlandscapesare,however,verydifferentfromthenaturalconditionsthatthetreespeciesareadaptedto.Thisposesbigchallengestotheurbanforestryinitseffortstocreatehealthyandvaluabletreesinurbanlandscapes.Onlythroughimplementingsomeimportantmeasureswecanensurehighsurvivalrateofsaplingsandwell-beingandlongevityofurbantrees.

  • 简介:Ricefieldsareecosystemswithmanytypesofplants,microbes,invertebrates,birdsandanimals.Thericefarmingprotectsthebiodiversityoftheregionandmaintainstheecosystemforthebenefitofenvironment.Somericevarietiesreleasebiocidalallelochemicalswhichmightaffectmajorweeds,microbialandpathogenicdiversityaroundriceplants,evensoilcharacteristics.Alargenumberofcompoundssuchasphenolicacids,fattyacids,indolesandterpeneshavebeenidentifiedinricerootexudatesanddecomposingriceresidues,asputativeallelochemicalswhichcaninteractwithsurroundingenvironment.Sincetheseallelopathicinteractionsmaybepositive,theycanbeusedaseffectivecontributorforsustainableandeco-friendlyagro-productionsystem.Geneticmodificationofcropplantstoimprovetheirallelopathicpropertiesandenhancementofdesirabletraitshasbeensuggested.Developmentofcropswithenhancedallelopathictraitsbygeneticmodificationshouldbedonecautiously,keepinginviewoftheecologicalriskassessment(non-toxicandsafeforhumansandecosystem,cropproductivity,ratioofbenefitandcost,etc.).

  • 简介:TheroleoforganicmatterintheformationandstabilityofsoilaggregatesinmulberryplantationintheHang-Jia-HuPlain,northernZhejiangProvince,wasevaluatedinthisstudy.Apositivecorrelationwasfoundbetweenwater-stableaggregatecontentsandorganicmattercontentsinthemulberryplantationsoils,whichsupportedthehypothesisthatorganicmatterwasthemaincementingagentinformationofaggregates.Aclosecorrelationwasalsofoundbetweenstabilityofaggregateandorganicmattercontents.Regressionanalysisshowedthattotalnitrogencontentwasalsoanindicatorofwater-stableaggregatecontentandstability.Theaggregatesizedistributionindicatedthatthewater-stableaggregates1~0.25mmindiameterwerethemajorcomponentoftheaggregatesinthemulberryplantationsoils.Theorganicmattercontentsofaggregatesrangingfrom5to0.25mmindiameterincreasedwiththedecreaseofaggregatesizes,andtheaggregates1~0.25mmindiameterhadthemaximumorganicmattercontent.

  • 简介:Lichensplayanunparalleledlyvitalroleinweatheringandsoil-formingprocessesinAntarcticregion,InthisstudysomerelatedchemicalcomponentsandmicromorphologicalanalyseshavebeencarriedoutonthesamplesoftheweatheredrocksandthelichensgrownonthemfromFilesPeninsula,Antarctic,Theresultsindicatiedthatthemajorchemicalcomponentsinthebioweatheringsurfacelayerofthesampledrockshavebeenobviouslyalteredandtheweatheringpotentialinthislayerhasgreatlydecreasedbyandaveragerangearound4.66percentin4samples,Intheweatheringsurfacelayerferruginiztionofsomemineralsinvaryingdegresswasseenbymeansofmicroscopicexaminationthroughthethinsectionoftheweatheredrocks,anditsproductsprovedtobedominatedbyhematitie,limonite,goethiteandfreeironoxidesMeanwhile,thestudysuggestedthatthedissolutionandabsorptionoflichensbytheirsecretionacceleratedtheprocessofcalcitizationofmineralsinthebio-weatheringsufacelayer,Eventually,theresultsalsoshowthatdifferentspeciesoflichensplaydifferentrolesinweatheringandsoil-formingproesses.

  • 简介:Genesarecontinuallybeingcreatedbytheprocessesofgenomeduplication(ohnolog)andgeneduplication(paralog)Whole-genomeduplicationshavebeenfoundtobewidespreadinplantspeciesandplayanimportantroleinplantevolution.Clearlyun-overlappingduplicatedblocksofwhole-genomeduplicationscanbedetectedinthegenomeofsequencedrice(Oryzasativa).Syntenicohnologpairs(ohnologues)ofthewhole-genomeduplicationsinricewereidentifiedbasedontheirsyntenicduplicatelines.Theparalogsofohnologueswerefurtherscannedusingmulti-roundreciprocalBLASTbest-hitsearching(E<e-14).Theresultsindicatedthatanaverageof0.55sisterparalogscouldbefoundforeveryohnologueinrice.Theseresultssuggestthatsmall-scaleduplications,aswellaswhole-genomeduplications,playasignificantroleinthetwoduplicatedricegenomes.
