简介:Thispaperreviewsanddiscussesthetechnicaltermsanddefinitionofmangroveandmangal,aswellasmangroveplant.Thewordmangrovehasbeenusedtorefereithertotheconstituentplantoftropicalandsubtropicalintertidalcommunityortothecommunityitself,butthisusagemakesmoreconfusion.Beingleavedmangroveinthemorelimitedsensefortheconstituentplantspecies,mangalwasproposedbyMacNae(1968)asatermformangrovecommunity,whichhasbeenuniversallyappliedtomostpreviousstudiesandshouldbeadoptednow.Mangroveshouldbethereforedefinedasatropicalandsubtropicaltreerestrictedtointertidalzones,whichpossessessomemorphologicalspecializionandphysiologicalmechanismadaptedtoitshabitat,andmangalasatropicalandsubtropicalforestcommunityrestrictedtomarineintertidalzonesandperiodicallyinundeatedbythetides.Anewterm″consortiveplant″isproposedhereforherb,liana,epiphyteorparasite,whichisrestrictedinthestrictmangrovehabitat.
