简介:RemotesensingtechnologyhasbeenwidelyrecognizedforcontributingtoemergencyresponseeffortsaftertheWorldTradeCenterattackonSeptember11th,2001.Theneedtocoordinateactivitiesinthemidstofadense,yetrelativelysmallarea,madethecombinationofimageryandmappeddatastrategicallyuseful.Thispaperreviewstheroleplayedbyaerialphotography,satelliteimagery,andLIDARdataatGroundZero.Itexamineshowemergencymanagersutilizedthesedatasets,andidentifiessignificantproblemsthatwereencountered.Itgoesontoexploreadditionalwaysinwhichimagerycouldhavebeenused,whilepresentingrecommendationsformoreeffectiveuseinfuturedisastersandHomelandSecurityapplications.Toplanadequatelyforfutureevents,itwasimportanttocaptureknowledgefromindividualswhorespondedtotheWorldTradeCenterattack.Inrecognition,interviewswithkeyemergencymanagementandgeographicinformationsystem(GIS)personnelprovidethebasisofthispaper.Successfultechniquesshouldnotbeforgotten,orseriousproblemsdismissed.AlthoughwidelyusedafterSeptember11th,itisimportanttorecognizethatwithbetterplanning,remotesensingandGIScouldhaveplayedanevengreaterrole.Togetherwithadataacquisitiontimeline,anexpandeddiscussionoftheseissuesisavailableintheMCEER/NSFreport'EmergencyResponseintheWakeoftheWorldTradeCenterAttack:TheRemoteSensingPerspective'(HuyckandAdams,2002).
简介:AnewequivalentcenterofmassmodelofFPBs(frictionpendulumbearings)isintroduced,andbasedonthismodel,coefficientjoftheequivalentcenterofmassseparatingfromtheslidingsurfaceisdefined.ItisthoughtintheorythatjhasasignificantimpactontheisolationparameterofFPBs,sincetheequivalentpost-yieldingstiffnessandfrictioncoefficientsarenotsimplydeterminedbyslidingradiusandslidingfrictionpairs.TheresultsofnumericalsimulationanalysisusingABAQUSconductedontwogroupsofFPBssupportthisviewpoint.ForFPBswiththesameslidingradiusandslidingfrictionpairs,theFPBmodulesofstructuralanalysissoftwaresuchasETABScouldonlydistinguishtheequivalenttransformationusingjonebyone.TheseismicresponsedataobtainedinabaseisolationcalculationexampleofFPBsareverydifferent,whichrevealsthatj’simpactontheisolationeffectivenessofFPBscannotbeignored.TheintroductionofjwillhelpimprovetheclassicalstructuraltheoryofFPBsandtheweakpointsofstructuralanalysissoftwarebasedonthistheory,whichisimportantinachievingmoreaccurateanalysesinstructuraldesign.
简介:WecompilearegionalcatalogueofearthquakeswithmomentmagnitudeoftheCenter-SouthernAsiatestarea(20°-35°N,85°-105°E)fortheGlobalSeismicHazardAssessmentProgram(GSHAP).Therearesignificantinhomogeneousanduncompleteddata,andnuniformityofearthquakemagnitudesinthistestareabecausethisregionissituatedontheboundariesofmanycountries,suchasChina,India,Nepal,Vietnam,etc.WeestablisharelationshipbetweenGutenbergsurface-wavemagnitudeandIASPEIsurface-wavemagnitude,whichcanbeusedforconversionofdifferentmagnitudescalesintomomentmagnitudeforthiscatalogue.AcatalogueofeventswithMw≥6.0ofthistestareaisgivenattheendofthispaper.
