Communication outcomes following cochlear implantation in a child with cystic cochleovestibular anomaly

摘要 Cochlearimplantationisoneofthebestamongstthevariousmanagementoptionsavailableforchildrenandadultswithseveretoprofoundsensorineuralhearingloss.Innerearandinternalauditorycanal(IAC)malformationsaccountstoapproximately25%ofcongenitalsensorineuralhearinglossinchildren.Theprimarygoalofthisreportwastoevaluatethecommunicationoutcomesaftercochlearimplantationinachildwithcysticcochleovestibularanomaly(CCVA).Thechildwasevaluatedthroughvariousstandardizedoutcomemeasuresatregularintervalstotracktheprogressintermsofauditoryandspokenlanguageskills.ThescoresonCategoriesofAuditoryPerception(CAP),MeaningfulAuditoryIntegrationScale(MAIS),SpeechIntelligibilityRating(SIR),MeaningfulUseofSpeechScale(MUSS),andlisteningandspokenlanguageskillsshowedasignificantleapin12monthsdurationpostimplantation.Thereportthushighlightsandcorrelatesthesignificantprogressinauditoryandspokenlanguageskillsofthechildwithcongenitalmalformationstoappropriateauditoryrehabilitationandintensiveparentaltraining.
