Propagation characteristics of a high-power broadband laser beam passing through a nonlinear optical medium with defects

摘要 Theintensitydistributionsofahigh-powerbroadbandlaserbeampassingthroughanonlinearopticalmediumwithdefectsandthenpropagatinginfreespaceareinvestigatedbasedonthegeneralnonlinearSchr¨odingerequationandthesplit-stepFouriernumericalmethod.Theinfluencesofthebandwidthofthelaserbeam,thethicknessofthemedium,andthedefectsonthelightintensitydistributionarerevealed.Wefindthatthenonlinearopticaleffectcanbesuppressedandthattheuniformityofthebeamcanbeimprovedforahigh-powerbroadbandlaserbeamwithappropriatewidebandwidth.Itisalsofoundthat,underthesameincidentlightintensity,athickermediumwillleadtoastrongerself-focusingintensity,andthattheinfluenceofdefectsintheopticalelementsontheintensityisstrongerforanarrowbandbeamthanforabroadbandbeam.
