摘要
Relationshipsbetweendiameteratbreastheight(dbh)versusstanddensity,andtreeheightversusdbh(heightcurve)wereexploredwiththeaimtofindiftherewerefunctionallinksbetweencorrespondentparametersoftherelationships,exponentsandinterceptsoftheirpowerfunctions.Ageometricmodelofaforeststandusingaconicapproximationsuggestedthatthereshouldbeinterrelationsbetweencorrespondentexponentsandinterceptsoftherelationships.Itisequivalenttoatypeof‘relationshipbetweenrelationships’thatmightexistinaforeststandundergoingself-thinning,andmeansthatparametersofonerelationshipmaybepredictedfromparametersofanother.Thepredictionsofthemodelweretestedwithdataonforeststandstructurefrompublisheddatabasesthatinvolvedanumberoftreesspeciesandsitequalitylevels.Itwasfoundthatthecorrespondentexponentsandinterceptsmaybedirectlyrecalculatedfromoneanotherforthesimplestcasewhenthetotalstemsurfaceareawasindependentofstanddensity.Forcaseswheretotalstemsurfaceareachangeswiththedropofdensity,itispossibletodevelopageneralizationofthemodelinwhichtheinterrelationshipsbetweencorrespondentparameters(exponentsandintercepts)maybestillestablished.
