Testingisaformofassessment.Itcanhappenatanystageoftheteaching/learningprocess.Atentry,learnersareoftengivenplacementtestsinordertoascertaintheirlevel.Theymayalsobegivensomekindofdiagnostictestinordertoidentifytheirparticularneeds.Inordertomonitorthelearningprocess,learnersmaythenbegivenperiodictestsduringtheircourse（progresstests）,andattheendofthecourse（achievementtests）.
