Antifouling Effect of Bioactive Compounds from Selected Marine Organisms in the Obhur Creek, Red Sea

摘要 ThreespeciesofspongesandatunicatewerecollectedfromObhurcreekofJeddahcoastforthisbioactivitystudy.Inordertoassesstheantifoulingefficacyofselectedmarineorganisms,methanolicextractsoftheseorganismsweretestedagainstdifferentfoulingbacterialformsandII-instarstageofthebarnacle,Balanusamphitrite.Antibiosis,bioactivityandfollowedbymultivariateanalyseswerecarriedouttochecktheefficacyofantifoulingeffectoftheselectedmarineorganisms.PrincipalcomponentanalysisrevealedtheexemplaryantifoulingefficacyofthespongeextractsofStylissasp.observedfollowedbyHyrtiossp.againstbacterialformsinthelaboratorystudy.De-trendedcorrespondenceanalysisconfirmedthatthecontributionofantifoulingefficacyoftheselectedspongeextractswasobservedtobemoretowardsBacillussp.,Vibriosp.andAlteromonassp.Moreover,theefficacyofHyrtiossp.extract(20.430μgmL-1)followedbyStylissasp.(30.945μgmL-1)showedhigheragainstbarnacleinstarcomparedwithotherextractsinthebioactivityassay.Bray-Curtisclusteranalysisunderpairedlinkagecategorizedallthespongeextractsintoonemajorclusterwith75%similarity,andoneoutliertunicate.Morethan80%similarityobservedbetweenHyrtiossp.andStylissasp.Fouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy(FTIR)showedthatthecontributionofmajorpeaksfoundinthemarineorganismsweretowardssulfones,sulfoxides,cyanatesandketones.
