Incontinuousannealinglines/hotgalvanizing,stripsareguidedbyupperandlowerrollsinanalternateupanddownverticalmotion.Thiskindofprocessconsistingofheating,soaking,andcoolingfurnaces(orzones)hasseveraladvantagesintermsofproductivityandproductquality.Mainproblemsencounteredincontinuousannealinglinesaremisguidingandformationofbuckling.Thestripbucklingcausesthestriptoberejectedand,intheworstcase,thestripbreaksandthecontinuousannealinglinesarecompelledtostop.Inthispapertheelastic-plasticmodelofthestriptravelingandthecorrespondingboundaryconditionwereconstructeddependantonthetheoryofmechanic.Simulationsareperformedintwosteps.First,ahomogeneouslongitudinaltensilestressisappliedatoneendofthestrip,theotherendofthestripandtherollarerestricted.Inthesecondstep,theappliedtensionremainsconstant.Auniformdisplacementisappliedtotheotherendofthestripandarotationtotheroll.Thetransversecompressivestress,thebucklingformationduringstriptravelingprocess,thelocationforthebucklingtakingplaceandthebucklingcriterionwereinvestigatedsystematically.Theresultshowsthatthetransversecompressivestressincreaseswiththeincreaseofthetensilestressandthecrownofthetaperedroll.Becausethecontactareabetweenthetaperedrollandthestripincreasewiththedecreaseofthecrown,thetensilestressdistributionismorehomogeneousinthetransversedirectionofthestrip.Anadditionaltransversecompressivestressiscreatedandabucklingisalsoobservedduetothefrictionduringthestripmotioninthesecondstep.Oncethebucklingisappearance,itisveryhardtoberemovedonlythroughdecreasingtheappliedlongitudinaltension,becausethestripwrinklestillkeepshighlevelduetotheeffectofthebuckledstrip,thewrinklewouldevolveintobucklingeventually.Thebucklingformationprocesspredictedbythefiniteelementmodelisverysimilartothose
